Spartans set for a humongous recruiting weekend

The Michigan State football staff reserved over 600 tickets for prospects their families and high school coaches for Saturday’s football game against Oregon.  MSU coaches and officials can’t talk about specific recruits, but MSU director of college advancement and performance Curtis Blackwell – the football program’s recruiting strategist -- can confirm that about 200 targeted prospects from several classes and 10 states will be on hand this weekend. And more could yet confirm as the week progresses. “I may have to turn my phone off,” Blackwell joked. “This will be special, a surreal experience. A day in the life of a Spartan. This is the biggest recruiting event in the history of Michigan State football.”

Talented prospects from 10 different states will be in East Lansing, many of them part of the #Spartan300.

Official Visitors

  • 247Sports has previously reported that Detroit (Mich.) King Top247 receiver Donnie Corleywill take his official visit this weekend. It’s well documented that the Spartans are the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite and that the U.S. Army All-American is torn between MSU and Ohio State with schools like Michigan, Notre Dame and Tennessee trying to make it interesting. I continue to believe the Spartans are in the driver’s seat after he nearly committed in July at The Opening.
  • The nation’s fastest linebacker, Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College standout Aaron Hansfordtakes his official to East Lansing. He is expected to be joined by his family. Penn State, Ohio State and Notre Dame among others are MSU’s competition with the Nittany Lions as the perceived favorite.
  • Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer Top50 offensive tackle and U.S. Army All-American E.J. Price takes his official visit to Michigan State and the Spartans will be a player moving forward for the blue-chipper and former Georgia

Was the official a local?

The poor Colorado Buffalos just can’t catch a break. Late in Thursday’s match-up in Oahu, the Buffs were driving hard down the field, trailing 20-28. Colorado had moved the ball to within Hawaii’s ten-yard line, with 12 seconds left on the clock. A more than manageable amount of time to get to the ball, get set, and run one last play. Not if the football gods have anything to say about it! When the umpire attempted to spot the ball on the toss from the side judge, it bounced off a Hawaii player, causing about a five second delay. Just enough time to doom the Buffs to a long, solemn, flight back to Boulder.

Missed the Hail Mary finish of the BYU - Nebraska game?

Not to worry; it's being shown again today (WED) on ESPNU from 10AM - 1PM.
