QUITE AN AFTERNOON!

by Frank Baldwin January 25, 2016

For Duck fans it couldn't have gone any better today. On the court, Oregon put away a feisty UCLA squad. So look for Oregon to enter the Top 25 rankings this week. And in the EAST - WEST Shrine game, Vernon Adams was on fire! Though the game hasn't yet finished, his day looks over with a West victory thanks mainly to his brilliant performance.  -- FB

Oregon Ducks blow out UCLA 86-72

Key run: Several times in the second half UCLA threatened to come back and at one point brought the game within three points. But a 9-2 run to 72-60 with 5:27 to play clinched it for the Ducks.

It was over when: Chris Boucher nailed a three-pointer with 48 seconds left to give Oregon a 14-point lead.

Key stat: The Ducks out-rebounded the Bruins 42-32.

Top performances: Dillon Brooks. Coming off a game in which he struggled from the floor while battling sickness, the Oregon sophomore had 25 points, five rebounds and six assists. Chris Boucher had 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Next up: Oregon travels to Arizona next week for games with the Wildcats Thursday and Sun Devils Sunday.

East-West Shrine Game 2016

How's this for a stat line: 6 for 9 passing for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns? After the West started a different QB who then threw two interceptions it was time for Vernon Adams to get the job……..and 3 short drives later and a 20-9 lead, those were his amazing stats, and he was rested!

His ability to repeatedly scramble out of trouble and his great arm accuracy led to two long touchdown throws, one for a Shrine Game record of 91 yards (if I'm correct)………..The announcers were incredibly impressed and began to speculate on his prospects in the NFL. Comments such as "He's shown he's better than a lot of pro backups" and "Bet Chip Kelley might be interested," etc, etc.

Check the press coverage once the game has concluded.
